Each time the beam moves, it light up special phosphor dots inside a glass tube and illuminates an active portion of the screen. LCD monitors on the other hand use an electric current passing through a liquid, forcing crystals to align so that light cannot pass through them. The more pixels an LCD TV has, the better your quality and the more expensive the tv will be.
